Kerr Cellars
From Passion to Purpose

In wine, as in sport, the finest expressions are rarely the most forceful, but the most controlled. Balance is not achieved through excess, but through discipline—the quiet refinement of countless small decisions. It is within this philosophy that Kerr Cellars finds its identity, shaped by a perspective where precision is not an aspiration, but a way of life.
There are few figures in the world of wine whose path to the cellar begins on the fairway. For Cristie Kerr, one of the most accomplished players in the history of women’s golf, the journey into wine was not a departure from her career, but an extension of the same discipline that defined it. A two-time Major Champion with more than 20 LPGA Tour victories, Kerr first encountered the wines of Napa Valley while competing in tournaments in the region. What began as curiosity gradually deepened into a sustained and thoughtful pursuit—one that evolved quietly alongside the demands of professional sport.
In 2006, Kerr took her first step into winemaking through a collaboration with Pride Mountain Vineyards. The project, named Curvature, was created in support of her foundation, Birdies for Breast Cancer, reflecting both a personal commitment and an emerging seriousness about wine. The wines quickly found an audience. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was served at a White House State Dinner in 2009—an early indication that this was not a symbolic venture, but one grounded in intent and quality.
The next chapter came with the founding of Kerr Cellars, where Kerr partnered with winemaker Helen Keplinger. Widely respected for her work across Napa Valley and beyond, Keplinger brings both technical rigor and a sensitivity to site that aligns naturally with Kerr’s own approach. With a background shaped by UC Davis and experience spanning California, Australia, and Spain, Keplinger has built a reputation for crafting wines of structure and clarity. Her collaboration with Kerr is defined not by scale, but by focus—small lots, carefully chosen vineyards, and a measured approach to winemaking.
Kerr Cellars works with select vineyard sources across Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast, producing a concise range that reflects the diversity of Northern California. The Cabernet Sauvignon is composed and structured, built with longevity in mind yet retaining a sense of approachability. From the Sonoma Coast, the Chardonnay balances richness with freshness, shaped as much by acidity as by texture. Across the portfolio, there is a consistent restraint—wines that are polished without excess, expressive without exaggeration.
In a relatively short time, Kerr Cellars has established a presence among California’s boutique producers. Named a “Winery to Watch” by Wine Spectator, the wines have found their place on the lists of leading restaurants and private clubs. Rather than rapid expansion, the estate has followed a more deliberate path, allowing its reputation to develop organically through quality and consistency. What ultimately defines Kerr Cellars is not novelty, but perspective. The mindset of a professional athlete—precision, repetition, and an insistence on continuous refinement—translates naturally into the rhythms of viticulture and winemaking.
There is a quiet confidence in this approach. Nothing is overstated, and nothing is rushed. In that sense, Kerr Cellars is less a reinvention than a continuation—an expression of the same principles, now realized through the language of wine.
